New look for village homes

14 August 2008

Work has been completed on a £950,000 modernisation scheme of Incommunities homes at Heather Road and Laburnum Drive in Baildon.

The scheme involved converting 47 out-of-date first floor bedsits into 32 spacious one-bedroom self-contained flats and modernising another 32 ground floor flats.

The improvements included fitting smart new kitchens and bathrooms and decoration work. Each tenant was given a choice of fittings, styles and colours.

One of the first tenants to see her bedsit converted into a one bedroom home was Betty Wolfenden of Heather Road.

She said: “My new-look home is lovely and a lot more spacious and modern than before. The decorating was a nice finishing touch.

“During the work the workmen and housing staff from Incommunities were very helpful and considerate.”

The improvement scheme at Heather Road and Laburnum Drive was carried out by Bullock Construction - one of Incommunities’ main regeneration partners.

As a thank you to all tenants for their support Bullock’s are holding a farewell party at The Baildon Club tomorrow (15 August) for people living on Heather Road and Laburnum Drive.

James Healy, Director of Incommunities – shipley office said: “These improvements show our commitment to improve more and more tenants’ homes up to the Bradford Standard, a level over and above the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.

“Incommunities and our partners, Bullock Construction have worked closely with tenants at the scheme to ensure the improvements have gone as smoothly as possible and a big thank you for their support. The improvements are part of multi-million pound improvements underway to transform homes in Shipley, Windhill and Baildon.”
